Aaron graduated from the University of Florida in December 2015 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Musician Zack Biss ‘15, followed his dreams of becoming a Nashville country star by attending Belmont University in Nashville, TN. Just a few months after arriving, he got the opportunity to interview country star Hunter Hayes before the CMA Awards.

Stories of alumni success and gratitude

Canterbury School of Florida alumni smilingI got a sense of humility at Canterbury. There were so many talented and dynamic people and faculty there, and I felt like I had to do my best to keep up. Read more about Kris in our school magazine. -- Kris Goddard, Executive Director for Neighborhood Development for the New York City Department of Small Business Services | Canterbury Class of 2000 | Brown University Class of 2004 | Cornell University Masters in City and Regional Planning

Canterbury School of Florida alumni smiling in the mountainsCanterbury offered me a strong academic foundation and enduring inquisitiveness, which have driven me to treat learning as a lifelong process. Read more about Lora in our school magazine. -- Lora Saalman, Associate Professor at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, where she gives lectures on weapons of mass destruction, cyber security, technology and deterrence, as well as Sino-Indian and Sino-Russian relations. Canterbury “lifer”--attended Kindergarten - Grade 12--Class of 1991 | University of Chicago Class of 1995 | Master’s degree from Monterey Institute for International Studies | Ph.D from Tsinghua University, China: the first American to earn a Ph.D from its Department of International Relations

Alumni holding a diploma on her graduation day - Canterbury School of FloridaAs a young scientist, I spend my days reading, writing, and searching for novel methods to investigate the systems that characterize our planet. While I’m still finding my exact niche in academia, I am grateful every day for the verbal and quantitative skills I developed in my classes at Canterbury. Furthermore, the passion for science and discovery passed to me through the school’s fabulous teachers (special shout-out to Mr. Wyness!) has been an unparalleled motivator. Thank you, Canterbury, for giving me better academic preparation than I could have ever asked for! -- Annie Ritch, currently a graduate student researcher at Stanford University | Canterbury, Class of 2010 | California Institute of Technology, Class of 2014

Headshot of an alumni at a co-ed private school near Tampa bayThe path of achievement and success for me started in the courtyard of Canterbury’s Lower School and continued to the halls of the Upper School. Students with individual talents were highlighted, and their star was made to shine brighter, not just in the halls of Canterbury, but in the community as well.

My experiences at Canterbury have prepared me for the long and winding road to medicine. When I am in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit taking care of a sick premature baby, it is the teamwork among the doctor, nurse, therapist and parents that allow that baby to survive and ultimately make it home. This same lesson of success through common goals is what Canterbury teachers demonstrated when I was a student, and what they continue to exemplify today. I try to incorporate these same values and principles with my students and residents on rounds in the hospital. -- Dr. Ursula Nawab, Neonatologist | Canterbury, Class of 1995 | USF College of Medicine | M.A. Boston University College of Engineering

Headshot of an alumni from a private co-educational school in St. Petersburg Academically, Canterbury was every bit as challenging as college. I first felt a spark for a life in journalism at Canterbury. . . the project that had a profound influence on me was that Senior Capstone Writing Project (a.k.a. Senior Thesis). I researched and presented on The Future of Television News. It was through that research that I determined there was a huge market for cable news. -- Jonathan Serrie, Fox News Correspondent for the Southeast | Canterbury, Class of 1983 | Emory University, Class of 1987

Alumni smiling on his graduation day with his sisterThe writing skills I learned at Canterbury definitely placed me at a distinct advantage over my peers at Columbia. Some classmates and I are now forming a start-up company, and I’m using those skills to write our web content. -- Nico Leeper, entrepreneur | Canterbury, Class of 2010 | Columbia University, Class of 2014 | Watch this video of Nico and his sister Simone talking to a group of Lower School parents about their experience at Columbia University.

Alumni from an independent school in St. Pete wearing a red bowtieThe beauty of Canterbury is that it is small enough to allow you to do anything and learn anything you want (within reason, of course), yet big enough to have the resources to make it possible. I remember how it was the norm to be on a variety of athletic teams, while also doing the school play or participating in one of the many clubs. People in college won’t believe you when you say you did all of those things in high school, but believe me, you are far better off for having done them. The point of a Canterbury education is to become the Renaissance men and women of tomorrow. -- Clark Gairing, Raymond James & Associates | Canterbury, Class of 2010 | Centre College, Class of 2014
