St. Petersburg, FL — After completing a national search, Canterbury School of Florida is excited to announce Hollis Amley has been unanimously appointed as their ninth Head of School, effective July 1st, 2022.
Hollis will fulfill her duties as Head of Upper School at St. John’s School in Houston, Texas, a position she’s held for the past seven years, before returning to her hometown of St. Petersburg. Upon graduation from Shorecrest Preparatory School, her education continued earning her a B.A. in History from Davidson College, an M.A in History from North Carolina State University, and an M.A in Education from Teachers College at Columbia University.
"Returning to St. Pete for this role is incredibly exciting,” said Hollis. “I am moved by the commitment and high level of respect that Canterbury has for academic excellence, curiosity, and inquiry-based learning.”
Hollis is currently undergoing an onboarding process to ensure a smooth transition to next July as Mac Hall, current Head of School, prepares to retire. After a 17 year tenure, he has built a legacy at the school and looks forward to Hollis’ future achievements.
"I am thrilled to pass the torch onto Hollis as she prepares to lead our school,” said Mac. “Her lifetime of experience in the education sector and her commitment to the personal and academic development of our students makes her the perfect person for the role.”
Canterbury engaged the executive search firm of Carney, Sandoe & Associates to conduct the search. The process drew the attention of more than 75 interested candidates.
