WORDS OF GUIDANCE DURING THE CORONAVIRUS #2

WORDS OF GUIDANCE DURING THE CORONAVIRUS #2

It surely feels like much longer than a couple of weeks ago that we started thinking about how the coronavirus could actually affect us. Yet now we find ourselves in a world that resembles one of those rides at the fair where the car goes every which way and then more.

I would venture to say that even the calmest among us can’t help but wonder what is next. That “what if” question, however, is one of the most dangerous we can ask. It begs us to reach beyond that which we can control, which often causes anxiety to grow exponentially.

At times like these a great way to start the day, or whenever things seem overwhelming, is to repeat to yourself this well-known meditation, for some a prayer:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;

Courage to change the things I can;

And wisdom to know the difference.

This graphic is a great way for adults and children to give perspective to this meditation/prayer.

I am available to help your children and your family navigate this challenging time. Please reach out to me via email or by leaving a voicemail on my office phone. Either way, I will respond in a timely fashion.

Don’t forget to go for a walk, do something for a neighbor, and take some deep breaths. Together, we’ll navigate these uncharted waters.

God of the present moment, God who stills the storm and soothes the frantic heart; bring hope and courage to all who wait or work in uncertainty. Bring hope that you will make them the equal of whatever lies ahead. Bring them courage to endure what cannot be avoided, for your will is health and wholeness; you are God, and we need you now as always. Amen.
