In Grades 1 - 4, students at Canterbury build upon the solid foundation established through our early childhood scientific-based approach to reading. While daily lessons prioritize the systematic and explicit instruction of essential reading skills such as phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, our curriculum extends beyond literacy alone. In addition to mastering these fundamental elements, students are also equipped with vital communication skills that are essential for success both inside and outside the classroom. Through focused instruction, students learn not only how to write and express themselves clearly but also how to master the art of cursive writing and articulate their thoughts effectively. This holistic approach to education ensures that our students are well-prepared to navigate the complexities of communication in an ever-evolving world.
